The boiler has been banging for a while so decided to clean system out. First time I've drained the system in this house & the previous owner has made a right mess of the square end of the tap on the draincock, has used wrong tools & the thing is so burred it is almost round! Managed to undo it eventually but on doing it up again the draincock leaks slightly.

I'm a novice to this really but if I buy another draincock would I be able to swap the insides round to fix both problems? That is, unscrew the central part from the new one, unscrew the existing one and screw the new part into the existing draincock body? Or am I being hopelessly optimistic that everything is a standard size, internally, that it totally unscrews & you can swap bits round?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, seems like wise advice to me. If I go & buy any old random one it's bound to be just different enough to cause a bit of panic & mayhem
