I was working on an oil boiler the other day it had a duel boiler stat i had power switched on and i removed the cover to the stat. I checked for power with my multi meter on the stats live to neutral, live to earth at one point when i had my multi meter test lead on the live i think i also touched it off the metal stat cause there was a bit of a bang and a flash and the tip of my test lead melted. The RCD to the boiler tripped in the house also. Am i right in saying i must of touched the test lead off of the stat a well as the live thus causing a short circut resulting in what happened. Or what could of caused this? Any ideas
