Hi,
I have lost power to my undersink electric water heater. It is on the same 30A circuit as my oven and some under-unit lighting, both of which still work.
Where the power cable into the water heater emerges from the wall is another cable, intended at one time for a waste-disposal unit. The power in this line is also dead. The cable to both these appliances is not a large gauge like that which goes to the oven. I believe the element in the water heater is 1.5kW.
If you were faced with this problem where would you begin? I haven't got a clue where to start. There is also a large guage cable that disappears into the wall behind the water heater - possibly on its way to the oven. There is also a standard mains socket that works intermittantly (
) seated in the chipboard on the back of the neighbouring kitchen unit (this may or may not be on the same circuit - can't tell since it doesn't work properly and it never has).
Could it be that putting all these 'normal' appliances on 'normal' cables on a 30A circuit has fried something? I gather appliances only draw the current that they need though - unless something goes wrong...
Please help. All input gratefully received!
James.
