emergency lighting!

a customer or mine was told that all their emergency lighting needs replacing as its over 10 years old! is there a regulation stating this?

the lights are dated but if they pass the 3 hour test surley they wont need replacing?

can anyone help...cheers

I think they recomend changing the batteries every 4 years, but do not think it is compulsory.

Any signage should be upgraded to Euro legend since year 2000 but I think only when existing fail.

A 10 year old system may be insufficient for current regs and may need additional stuff installed to comply

I see what you saying about the 'test', Scott. But the fact remains that those fittings are on borrowed time, and could fail anytime from now.

I always recommend replacement after seven years - particularly if its a 'public building' - this is in accordance with most manufacturer's advice.

BS 5266 deals with emergency lighting.. nothing in the 17th about it specifically..
