eon home repair rubber band

Had a phone call from Eon today trying to sell me a boiler contract. Didn't tell them I was a Gas Service Engineer and listened for 10 mins before he said "they'll fit a rubber band on the valve near the boiler, to enable full thermostatic control of the system".

When I challenged this utter nonsense, he could not explain further and hung up!

Has anyone else heard about Eon's ingenious device "not like the rubber bands that postmen have, it was SPECIAL"
