extractor fan

had an extractor fan fitted in new bathroom through local council,when bathroom light is switched on fan comes on when light is turned of fan stays on for time any reason for this,also there is no dedicated switch fitted to control the fan could someone enlighten me please thanks for any comments

the fan has a timer, that way it carries on working for a bit after you turn the light off hopefully making it a little bit more pleasant for the next user :)
 
thanks for that, why no dedicated switch for fan is it for safety reasons cheers
 
It's so you can't forget to turn it on.

There should be a fan isolation switch:

somewhere so that the fan can be isolated for maintenance without having to turn the lighting circuit off....
