Our house (20 years old) has the front upper aspect rendered and faux tudor style beams (timber) attached to the render, this is the original house design not a later addition.
The timber is showing signs of rotting and to be honest we don't like the whole Mock Tudor thing so are looking to have the beams removed and the render made good.
Couple of questions, will all the original render need to come off and new render applied? or can new render be skimmed over the existing surface to produce a flat finish?
Looking at on-going maintenance (paint) should we go for K-rend or equivalent to avoid the need for future painting (although reading info on-line suggests that the 'maintenance free ' aspect of K-rend might be exaggerated).
If we go for K-rend, does that affect the viability of skimming over the existing render as mentioned above?, I am assuming that the existing render is sand and cement.
