Hi all i have a ferroli f24b compact combi, had it last 10 years with just a new fan needed so been very lucky.

Anyway recently there was a leak on the side at the bottom left side, i took cover off and moved the pcb board out the way. Closer inspection showed the copper heat exchanger has started to leak.

Im sure a new bolier is needed. My question is presenty its working but the pressurre is rising slowly even while its off. Im certain this has to be with the cold mains leaking into the central heating side due to the crack in the plate heat exchanger. While i sort out my options is it safe to use i mean can the hot water be contaminated by the central heating side due to the crack in the plate heat exchanger??? Sorry if stupid question. Thanks

Under normal conditions your cold water supply will always be at a higher pressure than your primary system water so when the plate heat exchanger is pinholed the cold domestic water passes into the system water hence the pressure creeping up, in theory the system pressure could at some point be greater than the cold water inlet, very unlikely but it is possible , just get the plate heat exchanger changed , not a big job.
