I have a stone resin shower tray to fix to a hardwood plywood sheet floor (link to wood below).

The instructions say to use mortar to fix the tray. I've never used mortar to fix a tray before (I believe it's an older way of doing it). Would a strong adhesive not be a better choice? I've used adhesive before with no issues.

If it's a flat based stone resin tray and the plywood flooring is nice and solid/stable, flat and level then an adhesive will work - I use silicone adhesives in those cases without issue, not to be confused with silicone sealant.

I then use silicone sealant on the tray edges at all the wall(s) contact points.

It's a new sheet of plywood. Both are flat. What silicone adhesive would you recommend?

You can use any of the polymer adhesives - CT1/OB1/SticksLikeShlt etc.

You don't need a lot - this is just to anchor and hold the tray down, it's not so the tray sits up on it - So it's spots of adhesives equally over the area of the tray base or plywood, either or. Add the spots, lay the tray down and lift it back up immediately and ensure the adhesive has squashed down and contacted at all points, add a little more if not. There will be silicone sealant added along the tray to wall edges so when the tray is set down it's pushed up tight against the wall and the silicone will squeeze around, up and out and then be cleaned back to seal it to the wall, that added silicone sealant around the tray edges will also compliment the stability and hold the tray tight.
