rubber sealing tape, usually used to seal around gas fire openings etc, sticky backed so retains position.
 
Thast different to what I call Closure Plate tape then?
 
Thats what G-S expect but Nick prefers not to do that.

Quite apart from G-S, thats seems to me to create a risk of claims for water penetration into the building.

water cannot penetrate as opening sealed. Also rubber allows for expansion cement does not. Not going to labour point..its all about preference
