I have a garage which is built into a slope, with a pathway rising up one external side. There is clearly a dpc visible inside (see pictures) but the path outside equelly clearly breaches this towards the rear as it rises in height.

For the first 5-6 years there was never any damp, and I assumed the dp membrane must pass horizontally through th brickwork and then be bent virtically up against the wall to prevent penetration - but this is just an amateur guess.

Over the last few years damp has increasingly been evident in winter, inside, above the dpc. Also on the concrete floof against the wall.

1) Is it likely the dpc has failed?
2) Is the floor damp likely to be rising through the concrete, or might it be falling down inside the wall where the dpc has failed?
3) given it's a garage & damp is not a major issue, is there a cheap fix? - it's not worth spending a fortune on this.

The dpc has either failed or is breached for damp to be heading on up the wall. The only remedy for this is remove the breached area or replace the dpc.

As for the damp in the floor it is present because water will just mosy on in through the brickwork below dpc? there is nothing to keep it out. In a house the dpm under the concrete floor is taken up the wall and lapped into the dpc in the wall which creates a dry envelope. Unfortunately like many garages your doesn't not have this feature.

The only real fix is lowering ground level outside
