I have a garage used only for storage and washing machine. Rough concrete floor. I want to lay something cheap on the concrete so I can at least sweep of mop it periodically (and go in without putting on outdoor shoes!).

Local carpet shop quoted £350+ for vinel. Any cheaper options?

Won't be a dpm under concrete. Could trap moisture under.

Cheap felt backed carpet not an option?

Carpet tiles are cheap enough also

Ask nicely on a site such as Freegle or Gumtree. Someone in your area may be glad to dispose of an old carpet for free.

More or less decised on carpet tiles. Are they easy to lay? carpet fitter wanted silly money! Glue down? With what? And do they 'lock' in to each other or just lay side by side?

Cheapest is outdoor shoes. A pair of sandals is easy to put on and take off. You can even wear socks with it. Some people get a giggle about that, though.

Carpet tiles would be friction fit. You put them together and that's all.

Many thanks! Just some feedback:

bought 3 x 20 tiles, checked utube, and installed them. £110.

Carpet fitter wanted £450 to supply & install......!
