Hardwall prep

Hello

Just a quick question...again! Today i've been patching areas with Hardwall but was unable to do the finish coat with multi finish. However tomorrow i'll be skimming but what prep is needed for the hardwall before multi? Am i right in thinking strong mix of PVA to prime then another coat before i skim?
