can anyone give shed further light upon a grey area, work book states use of heat sheilds less than 1 mtr from painted surface or guttering.

word of mouth aclaims that any protruding UPVC facia boards between painted surface or guttering are accepted as suitable due to their thickness and resistance to heat in otherwords wont flop onto flue terminal.

secondary word of mouth says not acceptable but is the norm for many otherwise to many would be id'd etc.

What about from the horses mouth? Corgi technical helpline. Least then you can say you did it to their requirements if you get pulled on it. :?:

This is a prime example of regulations not keeping up with technology.

A condensing boiler with a plastic flue is unlikely to cause any problem to any other plastic components to one side of the terminal like down pipes or gutters or even a plastic facia board.

Slowly the manufacturers are getting roung to ensuring their MI have some sense.

not true.saw facia board that had come undone and fell onto flue which caused boiler to go off.

thanks guys for shedding better light upon the real world, but it just shows where one man aint bothered another is, but its these type that cause confusion and could lead others well and truely in it.

thanks

This is a case of using corgi book and manufacturers instructions as Agile says most modern boilers now use plastic flues and manufacturers instructions are changing allowing distances as close a 25mm

But older boilers are usually always a metre... Saw an old valliant vcw18 fitted 2 feet away from asbestos gutter and sofit was in for 15 years with no trouble at all till plastic gutter and sofit fitted come winter when boiler was on full belt the sofit melted into the flue and then caught fire taking half the roof up in flames before fire brigade arrived

well its certainly a case of it being poorly fitted.

as previous enquiries in here the boiler instruction do say 25 mm as its only mention which on talking with mfr they state anything less than reg 1 mtr need heat sheild no less than 25 mm from painted surface etc.

but confusion followed when it wsa suggested locally that the upvc is acceptable then otherwise again.

well ive contacted corgi as its an area wide installation fault and will be discussing

LLC
leaking system unrepaired
stop cock tap used on filling loop permanently fitted
the condenser drainage termination point, aswell as the engineer that acliamed it to be non condensing has it has no drainage pipe outside, leaving it same condition(well derrrrrrr thats one of the faults where the hell is the condensor draining to)

expecting a engineer out this afternoon who of course i will be talking to on the phone to ensure he finds and locates the leak rather than just topping up again and inspects all other workmanship in above areas

ill see what todays safe and sound engineer has got to say, then report it back to northern counties h.a who will of course need to take it up with seddons.

unfortunatly im not permited nor am i able to touch the installation however have threatened to terminate supply to the dwelling if the engineer does not sort the problem out.

best excuse ever:

engineers been out and passed the flue, claimin i am right however if the lower the flue it would interfere with the boiler HAHAHA HAHAHA whats up with a heat sheild.

water leak not found or rectified either, but they did change the ignition board this time and hey presto it works.

resident know says cough cough let it be a risk their problem.
