Are you certified to work on unvented hot water storage? These cylinders can be dangerous if plumbed up incorrectly or without the required safety valves and cutouts. Are you sure it's unvented? Make/model of kit? Do you mean expansion tank or vessel?

Your unvented cylinder depending on make and model may require a seperate expansion vessel for the cylinder and depending again on the make and model of your boiler it may need one but may have one already built in to the boiler we need to know what you have ???

If your boiler is modern it will have an expansion vessel in for the central heating side in most cases this will be sufficient.
You might have an vented central heating side in which case you have
a header tank in the loft.

the boiler is a WEC model 15 probably 30 odd years old there is a header tank in the loft for the heating

You have an vented central heating so no need for an expansion vessel
on the central heating and hot water tank heating circuit.
