We have a part attached to, what we think is the hot water output, of the boiler (it is not a combi) that we don't know what it is.

The heating system is open vented with a feed and expansion tank in the loft and a pump separate to the boiler. We are having a problem with air getting into the system and wondered if this part was causing an issue. It seams to be leaking water vapour when the boiler starts up and often has drips inside it.

Does anyone know what it is and if it can be removed?

It is an old pressure releif valve. Is your boiler an old open glued model? They often leak, and as there will be an open vent they are routinely removed and plugged.

Thanks for the reply.

The boiler was replaced in 2014 with a Baxi Solo 15HE. I'm guessing by the look of it that it predates this boiler.

Is it likely this is were the air is getting into the system? I checked the vent pipe using a glass of water and that doesn't seem to be sucking up anything.

That there be an old pressure releif valve, spring loaded , well out dated remove it from your system
