help to build block raised bed

hi. I'm trying my hand at building some raised beds in the garden. I want to also top some in the decking to create a seating area. I want a rendered painted finish so was going to use block but unsure what type or if single or need double thickness of block to take the weight. any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
