I have a gravity feed hot water system and when the hot water is turned on to any of the bathrooms it makes a horrible sound which can be cancelled out by cracking open any of the cold water valves has anyone met this problem previously.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

your problem is probably due to a ball valve in your cold water storage tank (which I presume is in the loft? ) when the water level is just about to shut off the water supply to the tank it is shutting off suddenly causing the pressure to send occilation down the pipes.

suggest you try reducing the water pressure if it is too high or place a pressure restrictor valve in the supply pipe to the cold water storage tank
You may need to replace the ballvalve it is is worn

Its difficult to search for an answer to a problem when you don't know what the problem is or the term it is known by ..It is called `water hammer'
