I have a Hotpoint WT960 that sometimes fails to start. Close the door, select the program, hit start, the door locks and then it just sits there. I have to cancel, and then try again. Is the door switch a likely candidate for the fault?

Thanks. But the first thing it normally does is open the water valve, so why would the motor brushes affect it?
Makes sense. I understand this model can have one of two different motors. Is there anyway to determine which one from the serial number (or any other means)?
