how long should a combined last ?

There are some early Vaillants still working after 27 years.
Many cheap boilers like Heatline are removed within five years.
The general rule of thumb is that you should get 8-12 years from most boiler if they are carefully installed and well maintained.
Most boiler are removed not because they cannot be repaired but because engineers want to fit a new boiler because its a more profitable job for them.

any boiler should be able to work for 10 years plus.
Unfortunately for some companies they have achieved a bad reputation which sadly isnt always their fault. Boilers such as heatline are victims of this and its caused by **** installers who dont do a decent job in the first place. They sling it on the wall, pipe it up and run. systems cause most problems with newer boilers. cheaper boilers attract these installers so they never last as long. vaillant boilers and worcester will have the same problems if they are put on a crap system bust most of the installers who use top quality boilers do a top quality job. the key word is MOST! not all.
All boilers are made to a good standard now days, yes some use cheaper parts but its the same as a car. If you treat it right and look after it, it should last you a long time regardless of if its a kia or a mercedes. If you thrash it and never look after it, it wont last 10 minutes.
Get a good installer and it will last a good amount of time, have regular services and understand how it works.

With the inflated rip-off price of spares it's most often cheaper to buy a new boiler than repair it.
As for 8-12 years, I remember boilers lasting 40years plus, and I'll be royally peed off if my Intergas doesn't see me out (20 years plus)

The early Atmos/Intergas I installed are fast pushing 10 years. Most have had nothing but an annual check and look as good as new.
