Wasn't sure if I should post this in woodwork/carpentry... I thought I'd try here first

We've got an old Ikea mirror.
It's still in great condition.

Problem: one of the corners of the frame is eroded or chipped away.

How do I fix? Do I use wood filler and then sand?
I've seen loads of repairs on tiktok of wooden things where they fill in gaps.

I'm guessing it's just simple wood filler.

If I can fill and smooth down, then I'd be happy to paint.

Would rather recycle.

Thanks.

Hi,

If you can upload a picture, that may give us an idea of the scale of the problem! :)

If it is a small area at the corner of the frame, then yes, wood filler could be used.

To get a crisp corner, you can temporarily attach some battens around the corner of the frame to make a former.
Attach them flush with the top face of the frame and then fill the gaps with the filler!
If the battens are lined with cling film first, they will be easier to remove.
...and then sand and finish.

I hope that helps, I'm sure other suggestions will follow! :)

Soda and superglue you will see used while others use wood filler

If you upload a picture we can advise better.
It depends from the damage.

Thanks for the replies guys.
See the pic below.
The wood is OK by the looks of it - just the paint that has peeled of - still a problem because the paint is a thick layer?

@Wayners Soda and superglue? Never ever heard that one before.
One problem was that I searched youtube - I thought I'd find millions of videos - not a single one that helped I could find.
Hoping you guys will give an answer.
Thanks.

I don't think that's paint - looks more like vinyl wrap over an MDF core to me. If so, it isn't repairable, or at least not economically.

Oh darn that! Grrrrr!
Surely I can sand down and apply filler and paint over and everything will be fine??
(I say this having never ever done myself before.)
Thanks.

Yes, it's mdf.
Filler will do.
Make sure you push it into the cracked paint.
Fill proud, then sand.

@johnny2007 what sort of filler?
Can you give me a link to somewhere like screwfix?
Thanks

+ What sort of paint?
I'm happy to paint it all - but would prefer just to cheat (if possible and just paint the corner - but guessing that might not work out)

Thanks
