Hi

I have had lots of problems with my hot water pressure that has been going on for months. I have found the problem is limescale in the pipes. I managed to get it out the pipes to the bath but can't seem to get it out the pipes to the kitchen tap.

I have tried forcing it out with cold mains, and just taking off the connections around the sink but no luck.

Anyone have a good way of clearing the pipes? I know you can get chemicals but the water will be used for washing up ect so didn't think it was a good idea.

Any suggestions would be brilliant, the kettle is getting tired!

Buy a water softener?

HCl will dissolve lime scale!

The problem is lumps of limescale that built up when I had the system off for a year and are now all round the pipes. It means that the water is only trickling out the hot tap.

Not sure a water softener would sort the problem.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is HCI and will it be ok to use in pipes that will have washing water in?

I intensionally call it HCl because if you dont know what it is then you are unlikely to know what precautions are required in using it.

Its a chemical which dissolves lime scale but is rather dangerous to use in inexperienced hands.

Ok so would you recommend trying to get a plumper in to do it? I know there is limescale in the pipes and the kitchen tap doesn't currently work as there is too much cold pressure for the level of hot pressure.

Thanks for the advice.

Most plumbers would have little idea of how to deal with it.

A boiler engineer might know how to connect his flushing pump and what chemical to use.

I said "MIGHT" know!
