Keyplayer................thanks for the insult but thats what my wife said when she came back from shopping

UPDATE..........Pro-plasterer came out today and skimmed all the walls and I must say what a excellent job, I asked him where did he learn how to do it and he said he worked with his dad for years doing renovating and he just picked it up and said if you want to you can go on a weeks course for about £400 ,,, and the capabilities are down to yourself.......has anybody been on one of these courses and did you benefit from it.

Well my boy had the benifit of his Father in Law being a retired pro.......and he set up a practicewall in his garage BUT even the old boy was surprised how my son took to it :P ....son says ceilings are no different to walls , now  .............I think it`s 50% luck if you`re good like him.............so, yes I`d say a course would be worth it

I did a four day course a while ago now in Stockport. It was about £300.

A few people said not to bother - they're useless and a waste of money. How wrong could they be.

I didn't go on the course expecting to be a pro plasterer in a week. I did it because I'd tried plastering bits but didn't know the correct process and techniques. I came away from the course with a whole load of new knowlege which I was able to put into practice. It's been a few months now and I'm still learning but I'm doing a hell of a lot better than if I'd not done the course.

I'm fortunate enough (or unfortunate as the case may be) to have a whole house which is in need of plastering and is providing all the practice I need. If I stuff it up I just do it again!

It takes a long long time to become a good plasterer and there's no substitute for practice and experience but the course was an excellent introduction to the trade.

In my situation, £300 was absolutely NOT a waste of money. Had I not paid £300 for the course I probably would have had to pay more than 10 times that amount to get my house plastered.

If you're in the North West and want the details of the plastering school then please let me know and I'll let you know the details.
