Is my plumb tree dead?

I planted a plum tree last year (November) and although the branches still look alive there has been no sign of blossom or leaves so far. I purchased it as 'pot grown' and got an apple tree at the same time which is thriving. Both are planted in the same soil.

There are un-opened buds on the branches but no sign of life. I didn't want to disturb it by checking how the roots are.

Anyone know if it is likely to perk up next year, or does the fact that it hasn't done anything this year mean that it is likely to be dead?

Thanks

Gary

Thanks chaps - yeah, it's been watered well JohnD - I live in Scotland

I'll just leave it and see how it gets on next year.

Cheers
