Thank goodness I am able to turn up and fix all these cowboy cock ups. Praise the lord that I can rectify their mistakes using proper fused spurs with 2.5 T&E and check the sockets I install with the right socket tester that will read the earth impedence too as per 17th Edition.

Would you accept a new socket fitted with just a socket tester used?

I think we just have to accept that there are people who will do work that they feel is of a satisfactory standard. To know they exist is irritating at best and extremely worrying at worst but there is little we can do to stop them. All we can do is try to explain to them why we are concerned and maybe politely correct any mistakes they make when posting on the forum. If they do not listen and continue to work to the standard they feel is good enough then there is nothing more we can do here.

Using a socket tester on a fused spur is interesting...

As is the op's assumption that 2.5mm TE is an absolute on a spur, 1.5mm would be ok.
