Ladder Spring Arm

Hello there, I know there are spring arms out there for metal ladders, which enable you do get the ladder down safely and in a controllable fashion from the loft, but I can't find anywhere that sells them in the UK.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Alternatively can anyone think of anything else that might work instead, or how I might go about making something?

Have you tried googling "counterbalanced loft" ladders?

I don't want to buy a new loft ladder, I want to retrofit a system to the existing ladder as mentioned originally.

Would it be safe,??? Bodging up ladders isnt a very good idea.

I doubt you will just be able to buy a kit to do what you want, I was thinking you could look at how it is done & work something out for yourself as you also mentioned originally.

How would that work?

Without seeing your specific system, one pulley for lifting the ladder up from the horizontal and another to lower it. Hardly the most complicated thing to imagine and set up.
