Hi.
We had a Vaillaint ecotec 418 boiler fitted in our office a few weeks ago. It was sourced as a new second (someone had bought it and then decided they didn't want to use it.)
It is currently running about 5 radiators (2 large, 2 medium, 1 small), in our office area.
I have not been convinced it is running as it should since we bought it.
The radiator's never get HOT. Don't get me wrong they get hotter than warm, but never really hot. We are in a double shop front office, with little/no insulation I imagine, very large single glazed shop front windows, and leaky frames, so I don't know if it's just that which is stopping it getting above about 20C.
Some days it seems to get hot (25Cish), but then 2/3 of the time it takes a good few hours to get up to temperature, and then often struggles to get past 19Cish, for hours.
The boiler itself sporadically makes very loud noises- like a bag of spanners being flung around inside, and large banging generally, like there is someone banging on the outside wall or doing something with a hammer or something. This happens probably once or twice a day at some point.
The boiler is a combi but we keep the hot water turned off at all times as it's not plumbed in to provide hot water.
As for the boiler itself- Is it normal for the temperature guage on the boiler to heat up water to 80C ish over a period of twenty seconds or so and then immediately fire off and cool down to around 47Cish within one or two minutes, and then keep doing that. Like it seems to fire up for twenty or thirty seconds then cool off for a one or two minutes, in a continuous cycle.
I noticed yesterday that when it made that loud clanging noise the temperature dropped off even quicker.
Is this normal?
Should it heat to 80C and then remain at that till the room comes up to the thermostats temperature?
My colleugue thinks it's fine, as it does basically heat the room up eventually, but it just takes a long time, and never get's as hot as it should, so that, combined with the loud noises means I'm convinced it's not operating properly.
Any wisdom/advice on this would be greatly appreciated. If anyone wants me to take some picks of the setup then I can do.
By the way it is the type of boiler which has a cold water feed going into it, and then is vented through an external wall. But I do know it was converted to work in this way (with a pump?-i think - and pressure guage stuff and other external bits). I think it was originally meant to work under pressure? - Don't know the right lingo
