Low voltage bulbs with a dimmer switch?

I fitted a double dimmer switch from a double switch but their is a buzzing noise comming from the one ceiling light.

I was told its because i have low voltage fittings & it wont work.

Would i be better off getting a dimmer for low voltage lights or new light fittings?

Hi,

What sort of ceiling light is it? Is it one of the type that comes complete with a transformer? What bulbs does it take?

The transformer may not be designed to be dimmable. In which case you might be able to replace the transformer, or you might have to buy a new fitting.

If there is a transformer involved you will also need to ensure that the dimmer switch is suitable - for example these
