I have just moved into a new property where in each of the main rooms are mechanical air change devices installed by the government, where windows were kept shut to reduce effects of noise from the nearby air base.
The noise doesn't bother me, but the devices are a real eyesore, so want to get them removed. On the inside, it's just a white box containing the fan with a speed control and a fused spur on the wall. On the outside is two vents, an in-take and out-take I assume.
Can I simply remove the box and it's contents, and replace it with a vent or two vents on the inside? Or do I need to get this professionally bricked up?
I assume if I just use a vent, I'll get issues with damp or my heating being let out? or is there a special vent I should be looking at?
