Hi guys, so I have a Vaillant boiler in my flat, which recently (as the weather has got colder) has occasionally failed to ignite when I turn a hot tap on. The solution for this is for me to turn on the bathroom sink tap which always ignites the boiler and then I turn the other tap on and the boiler keeps running.

So no real problems but my concern is I probably shouldn't have to be doing this and I wondered what the problem could be, maybe it means something's going to fail in time, so I'd rather get to the bottom of it now.

The flat itself was built in 2000 and the boiler and pipes installed then, if that helps?

Thanks,

Alex

Sounds like a 242 with a failing diverter valve!

If its that model then change the diverter valve or better get someone to do it for you.

If I leave it, could it lead to more serious problems?

No, but will only get worse!

So you might as well get it done sooner rather than later and avoid the inconvenience!

Hi there, I had a new diverter valve fitted after the previous problem and things have been fine for a while.

Until today, when I turned the heating on and the flame didn't ignite in the boiler (or even attempt to ignite), it just did nothing.

When I turn a hot tap on, it works fine.

Any suggestions?

Are we still talking about hot water, or have you now moved onto the heating side?

If its water, then you still have an issue, if its the heating side, then I suspect your room stat is not calling for heat due to the warmer summer air temps.

Could you come back with more specifics - esp a model no.?

Hi, no as my previous message said, the hot water is now fine. It is the heating that is the issue.

Yes, the weather has got warm now.

It's a Vaillant combi 242 boiler.

What would you suggest?

Oh, I just turned the thermostat up until it clicked and now the hot water comes on.

Simple solutions!

Thanks.

If you turn the stat up and the water comes on you have another problem
