Please could you explain to me in layman's terms the implications of a missing flow regulator/filter from the DHW inlet pipe.Thanks.

You could possibly get cr~p in your working bits and excessive flow causing insufficient hot water!!
O.K-so could this have contributed to blocking up the HE-the thing I initially posted about?
