Nest Energy summary as of 31 January?

OK it says 234 hours in December and 286 hours in January, but how does it know? Nest tells boiler it can run, not boiler telling Nest I am running, so if water it hot enough then boiler does not run even if Nest says it can, so what is the point logging it all?
