Noisey Jollyfill valve

Hi

I havem just fitted a Jollyfill cistern filler valve which came with a concealed toilet cistern. All works OK but makes a horrible noise when the cistern is nearly full. It sounds like a bicycle with really squeaky brakes.

Any ideas?

Try adjusting isolation valve to see if this will help, works sometimes if pressure is high.

It could be water hammer. Is your pipe work clipped correctly? That sort of inlet valve should work on both high and low pressure.

Jollyfill Compact 9,5" Bottom Entry Inlet Float Valve

1. The inlet filter/restrictor is essential otherwise the pressure is too great and may affect the closing action. I had to carefully trim off the extruding part of the extracting tab on the filter/restrictor before inserting.
2. The valve would not shut off properly. Believing that this was caused by the retaining nut being loose, I set about trying to access it by first attempting to pull off the cover. This was a pig to remove! I didn't want to force it as I was afraid I would break something. In the end I had to remove the whole assembly from the cistern. I threw caution to the wind and used brute force and ignorance. It did come off and as far as I can see this is the only way to remove it. Sure enough the retaining nut was loose.
3. The only other problem I had was in making the water supply pipe watertight. I couldn't stop it slightly leaking and didn't want to tighten it up too much as there is a danger of stripping the plastic thread. A few turns of PTFE tape sorted this out. (Be careful none gets inside the pipe as it might get into the diaphragm.)
4. The valve now appears to work very well.
