we will be moving house in about two months and in the back garden, underneath a forest of weeds and brambles, is an old, disconnected oil tank used for oil heating purposes. Don't know why, or how, it got there as the property has never used oil. Suspect it was from an old job my late FIL did when he was a boiler engineer. The problem is, we have two options. One to get shut of it through a reputable recycling facility, or two, cut it in half lengthwise, clean it out, (if it has any residue in it), and use it as planters in the garden.
I've looked online for places to take it to but they all say you need to use a licenced removal specialist. Nothing about just taking it along yourself if it has already been disconnected. Am I allowed to transport it myself or do I need a Hazmat licence? It seems to be empty, (no sloshing around when I rock it), no smell when I open the filler cap and has been there for at least 10 years to my knowledge.
Any thoughts?

My wife managed to contact one firm who wanted £576.00+VAT just to uplift it from the driveway!
We don't think it's ever been used. There is no residue inside and no smell of anything.
Unless we can find someone offering a sensible price, we will cut it lengthways and use it for some raised beds in the garden.
