Many, many years ago, back in my student days, the joke went like this:

"Somebody in Whitley Bay accidently set of an atomic bomb yesterday. It did five pounds' worth of damage."

Now I have the means to see if that was a realistic estimate. Of course five pounds was worth a lot more in 1971 --
