Using a family members car today.

16yr old golf tdi 2l. 150k. Kept to service schedule. First 100k at main dealer.

When accelerating hard between say 60 and 70, or 70 to 80, I hear a noise in the front offside of the car. Almost like a bearing making a hum noise.

So hum for 1/2 a sec, then silence, then hum. A rhythmic noise. Only during a period of hard acceleration. Maybe less of a hum more of a groan, or whatever.

Any thoughts before taking to a mechanic?

Tyre pressure wrong and/or tyre failing due to running with low pressure.
CV joint on the way out.
'Pot' joint on the way out.
Hub nut loose.
Brake disc out of shape.
Brake Caliper sticking
Ball joints on the way out.
Suspension arm rubber bush on way out
Suspension arm Bolt(s) loose (it's what happened to me)

will that do for a starter?

Hahaha
Kinda helpful. It's had new tyres, brakes, calipers in past few years.
Either way not my problem, just curious
Thank you
