Hi Guys and Gals,

Our heating system was playing up and i traced it to the 3 port diverter valve, so I replaced it. I could manually open the old one and get heating working, How ever now i've fitted the new one, i have nothing.

I have the flow A-B the same as old one, the valve seems to open, and change from heating / Water or both... But i have no water flow. Pipes stay cold.

The boiler fires, and the tank in the boiler gets warm, well Very hot, but nothing seems to be flowing through the pipes, even tho it did prior to replacement.

the pump seems to be making the same noises it did before, and if i leave it on it gets hot... but still no heat in the pipes? I assumed maybe i have an air lock, so re0drained the system, Filled lowe rads, then upstairs int he hope to fix it, but still no flow of hot water...

Could it just be co-incidence the Pump has failed? or could i be doing something wrong?

Anyone any ideas

Thanks in advance

M.A.

Did you use the lever to set the valve in mid position when refilling, otherwise CH port gets blocked off and cause air lock. also don't forget to bleed pump

Yeah, thanks, I locked the Valve off in the Mid position prior to fitting, and refilling.

Bleeding the Pump? Maybe this is what im missing? Ive bled the Rads, and the Cylinder etc.... but the pump?

Could you enlighten me?
Cant remember what make it is, but I can get detials tommrw if needed... I do remember it s red tho (lol) if that helps....

BTW, just had a quick look, it a Grundfos Selectric Pump.... but cant see nowhere to bleed it from? Any pointers?

Hi all, Found the Bleed on the Pump, Turned it about half a turn and water flowed from there, so nipped back up, Im Guessing its not that then...

Any more ideas?

Is it worth me Draining down again tonight and trying a third refil?

wouldnt be a worcester bosch heatslave by any chance. if so try bleeding the bleed points on the pipework and heat exchanger.

The Boiler is a Trianco....

Ive again this evening been bleeding everywhere i can find, eventually i have hot water getting back to the pump, but not getting to the rads, or making it into the cylinder.

I spoke with a friend of a friend who is a plumber and he sugested i have an air lock in the pipes, and it could be a pain to get out, sugested trying a drain and slow refil, this is what ive done, and guess what..... im now back to square one, no hot water even getting back to the pump...Grrrr...

Any more ideas?

Have you turned off ALL the rads and just run the hot water?

Have you next run just the heating with just ONE rad turned on ? Then moved that one rad along the next and continue in turn?

Have you checked the F&E tank is full ?

Have you removed the pump and then opened each valve into a bucket to ensure the valves are really opening and not failed?

Think of how many hours you have spent on this ! Spare a thought for us professionals who have to sort it all out within 30 minutes !

Who would sort a problem like this in 30 minutes? Such statements destroy all credibility.

As I charge a fixed price diagnostic fee then I have to try to do everything quickly.

12 minutes to remove pump head and test each pump valve into a bucket would probably find the problem. It would also inspect the impeller which might be blocked.

If not then it might also indicate a less than expected flow into the bucket which would prompt a visit to the F&E tank.
