Hi all,

new here so first post :)

My neighbour had their oil nicked last week and we're having 500ltrs delivered tomorrow so I'd like to make the tank as secure as possible.
Can't get into brickwork or a cage just yet so have got a decent YALE extreme weather padlock with a shielded shoulder (anti bolt cutter) bit to it, this is for the main filler hole.
But next to this on the tank is a smaller, threaded opening with a cap and there seems to be no way to secure this...so any thief would still be able to "suck away" from here?

any ideas?

locking it will only make things worse they will make a hole in the tank

Have a chat with your neighbourhood police officer. I am sure they will visit and give you some good advice.

they dropped by when the neighbour was done, they said "well...err....there's not much you can do about it"

I'm figuring having a decent padlock is going to make it a lot harder for them, if they want to get out drills etc. then hopefully I will be awake with my baseball bat by then ;)

given the value of the oil, isnt it worth putting a mesh cage round it.

as i said use one of these

What happens when you forget to unlock it for the delivery driver?

(BTW, I'm also of the school that thinks a plastic tank with a padlock on it is going to be an empty plastic tank with a big hole in it if the gits want what's in it)

They cannot do much about the theft once it has happened, but they can and should most certainly provide advice about future crime prevention. I would complain if that is the response I was given.

Lou.

if its pikies there is nothing the police can do, its not safe for the police to enter a pikie camp. and as for going at them with a baseball bat you will need something bigger than that.
it is mostly pikies that nick it as that is what they run there trucks on.

Oh well!

If you can't beat them join them, I'm off to get me Big Fat Pink Gypsy wedding dress now
