Thanks Dec, and i agree no need to undercoat again, just remember to wash down after abrading with wet n dry as it leaves a sort of slurry on the surface.

Finally got round to repainting the gate, i took my time and the results were v good. Used Crown trade in black gloss.
My sister has not seen it yet as she was away on a day trip, no doubt she will ring me tomorrow and tell me that that gate looks okay.
