I'm planning on building a pergola full length of the rear of my house. Planning permission not required. It will span about 9m and extend out just over 3m.
I'll be using 6x2s as the ledger with 10mm spaces behind it.
I'm torn over whether or not I can safely attach the ledger to the rear of the house. I have brick veneer and finding it difficult to locate anything behind the brick to attach to, so the ledger will attach only to the brick.
The rest of the pergola will be standard, posts spaced evenly with rafters running from rear of the house extending outwards. Poly roof will go on at the end.
Some posts I read say don't attach the ledger to the brick, others just crack on. Would appreciate thoughts from anyone who has done.
I have an alternative to concrete post in near the house and attach the ledger to them but not as aesthetically pleasing.
Thanks
