I am about to embark on my real first effort at basecoat plastering.

Can i get some info from you all on how to go about do it correctly. I have been reading and it seems i need to do some things.

Here is the area to be done:

I have a new block wall to do and old brick walls where i have taken off the plaster.

1) Can i use bonding and browning coat on both surfaces (separately).

2) do i need to use a pva solution on the walls first or can i just wet them with water ?

3) Do you actually need to use a sand/cement render on the bricks instead of the gypsum stuff ? The area to do is a kitchen.

4) I want to use timber lats as a guide to getting a nice straight wall. Do you guys use these or do you just create your own straight edge strips out of the plaster prior to plastering the whole wall ?

any more tips will be appreciated. I need to buy a long P's darby after reading up.
