Hi, hoping someone can help me here. I work as a property maintenance contractor but central heating is not my forte so I dont touch it! typically my own is playing up. The boiler and pump do not fire up when the wall timer clicks on in the timed setting, switching it to constant does nothing either (i've fitted a new one today and it's not changed anything). Pulling the switch over to manual on the motorised valve actuator fires the pump up and the boiler but the boiler lasts a few seconds and switches itself off, the pump switches off after a minute or so. The red light on the potterton isn't flashing (it's on constantly) and pressing the reset button makes the boiler click but nothing, at the same time you can hear the pump spin for a couple of seconds then it switches off...

Any ideas please ?? :(

Cheers, Shawn.

It sounds as if the microswitch in the motor valve is faulty or just possibly the motor is failed depending on which type you have.

But there could be other causes.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!
The motor is a siemens demountable motorised valve czv222.
Maybe I should check this first...

Is there a hot water cylinder? If so, tweak the cylinder stat upwards in temperature until it clicks, then see if this fires the boiler and pump for a longer period. If so, that would suggest a motorised valve problem.
