Hi, This system is about 5 years old. Just today of all days (Hogmany) the system appears to have stopped working. I click the heating on, the boiler fires up (green light stays on) then their is a loud banging, scratching type noise - (like its feeding back into the boiler) then the boiler shuts down and the red light comes on. Also for a minute or so after that the pipes up stairs or mabye downstair start making noises.

We have just taken out the Home 300 cover with Scottish Gas literally 3 days ago - they cant get anyone out until Wednesday - but I dont know if we will be covered.

Anyone got any ideas whats going on - air in the system possibly?

thanks & a Happy New Year ppl.

Richard.

See if the pump is turning - remove big central screw (dribbles). You may be able to insert a screwdriver and twist to free it off.

It does sound like the pump aint running cos the water in the heatexchanger is boiling so dont keep trying it. Not all pumps r easy to bleed but if u r going to investigate the pump turn the boiler thermostat off so u dont damage it or the stats in the boiler.depending what type of pump it is u should look at the end off the motor which projects at 90 degrees from the pipe. If its been workin ok & has stopped unless u hav debris in your system it don't sound good.

yeah it appears that the hot water part is still working - I tried a few more times to fire up the heating and now for some reason the noises have disappeared but the same thing happens - boiler comes on with pilot then it just stops after about 1 minute.
