Howdy fellas, ancient boiler barely limping along, as good as condemned by the last engineer to come out and coax it to life, immersion upstairs, electric bills rather naughty

anyhow, I have a quote from an outfit in Stamford Hill called Gasline that have done for me for a long time that I've always found honest and reliable

To supply& fit etc etc a new Valiant combi boiler, a good one, twice as much oomph as the current boiler, remove the immersion, fit some thermostatic vales to the rads, themostat and generally do whatever is necessary (lovely thorough quote) with two years parts and labour guarantee comes to £2,300 + VAT

two to two and a half days labour apparently

does that seem more or less fair?

Want the job done properly first and foremost natch

thanks

At first sight that sounds very reasonable indeed !

However you dont give details of the boiler model !

And as far as "twice as much oomph" well thats unbelievable!

And will the water supply into the house deliver enough flow to justify this uprated boiler as well as all the other water using devices? Did they even measure the water flow?

Tony

sorry, I'll post details this evening, my nerves got the better of me during the day

re 'oomph'; I'm quoting their bloke today when I queried the quality and power of the proposed boiler

I'd be grateful for things to watch out for that they may not have quoted

the two tanks will come out of the loft I assume, the big one for water and the header tank?

When the boiler stops, you have no heat and NO HOT WATER. This is a feature of a combi. Is this what you want?

yes I know

isn't the bog standard combi boiler the standard way to go now though?

I've lived with a sucession of iffy boilers and I do know the value of hot water when there's no heating, and the horror of no hot water when there's no heat

I'm kinda thinking that a brand new boiler is going to be fairly problem free if it's good one put in right?

No way to keep the immersion though is there, with a combi?

Got two small kids and a wife that likes baths at odd times, 24hr hot water has attractions, in the same way that two tanks of hot water a day whether I use them or not doesn't
