Hi, I have recently brought a 1930s property. The old fireplace was just plastered over and a pretty broken hearth concrete fireback was where this hole is. I want to start removing the newer bricks and just left with the original so I can eventually install a log burner.

But want to ask which bricks specifically on the top should I remove. There’s no lintel but has an arch which you can just see at the top centre of this pic underneath the plaster.
The sides seems pretty obvious but not sure how far up I go as I’m concerned about damaging any of the arch bricks!

Any help appreciated - thanks!
