Silly question but im new... Is it possible to pull carpet up once it is installed and work on and under floor boards then to replace carpet. Will the replacing (or removing) of carpet need to be done by carpet fitter to avoid damage as i have no experience.

The fact is i might need to work on boards having had carpet installed a year ago, and dont want to fork out for new carpet.

Any advice most welcome and thanks in advance.

When your carpet was fitted, slats fitted with small spikes would be fixed all round the edges of the room. The carpet is then stretched and the backing is pushed onto the spikes. Your carpet can be lifted without too much damage to the backing, however for a neat finish, it needs to be stretched again to refix to the spikes.

Unless they were fitted by a cowboy. We discovered ours had been stuck down with spray adhesive, no underlay either. Only glad we never paid for it, the previous owners had the carpets fitted.

We can only guess that they wanted a 'quick fix' solution to sell the property.

take the carpet up carefully and make sure its rolled up when you want it re fitted call a nicf approved carpet fitter to do it

But that IS the way a foam backed carpet should be fitted

you can safley remove a carpet, lift it up (start at a corner as its easier) then roll it up, NEVER crease it or fold it.

then when finished unroll it, and "tuck it in" (back down over the carpet gripper, adjacent the skirting board) with a BLUNT bolster chiesel
