rendering vs stucco

I've just come back from the states. They don't use render, they use bags of ' stucco' it looks like easy to use n sticky stuff...........why don't we use it over here?

At a guess, because they have a higher percentage of timber framed buildings over there.

Its just the same as lime mortar is it not?

yeah, we were in Vegas and looked at some new homes, they were all built from 6 x2 covered in OSB then membrane then chicken wire and then 'stuccoed'.........no brick outer skin!
