Hey all,

I went to do a quotation today for a demolitions company who are decommissioning a former high street store. It has over 20 db's and they need certain saftey circuits left alone or temporarily supplied if unsafe.

I went through it all fine and towards the end the client asked if I would be providing a 'safe isolation certificate'.
Now I have made one up before for a previous client/project but was unaware of their being such a thing that you could purchase & provide..

I have checked our NICEIC Catalogue and found nothing, and google doesn't seem to help

So has anybody experienced this before?

Or will it be another mock up?

Never heard of an 'official' one, its generally one mocked up by the contractor, so I'd approach them for it, the important thing is the signiature, and what you signing for. Do you have public liability and professional indemnity insurance?

uh huh, have both. It will be my signature on it.

Guess I'll have to re-do a cert then, as the old template I made was on my old laptop.

Poo.

I have always referred to them as:- Permit to Work
And these are normally issued after a method statement has been drawn up and a risk assessment made.
Unless the whole building is isolated it would be hard to issue any general permit to work and would normally be issued for each task.
So any 'safe isolation certificate' would need to be very carefully worded to indicate exactly what is isolated. And also I would think very detailed on how isolated dropping tails I would consider as favourite as far too easy for locks to be removed. I would also take photos of each isolation so if it is reconnected to have proof it was isolated.
In the past the notice is always posted on the boards as well as copy kept for reference. And I provision is normally included for people working on the system to say they have read the document and understand the limits of the isolation.

Just make sure things are safe. If its a big enough demolition job then they shoukd have a sparky on sit at all times anyway.
