Hi I wonder if someone could advise me. I have a salamander shower pump which is only 4 years old for my power show however it has started leaking quite bad.

i have been advised it is going to cost upwards of £400 to replace.

however i am in the process of getting quotes together to get my current boiler replaced as it is not good enough for the amount of rads in the house so far the best quote i have had for this is around £2500

the plumber has told me that i should take this opportunity to actually take out the power shower and put in a combi boiler instead although he cant give me a price just yet.

Although i expect it would cost a fair bit more.

is this a bit extreme? the shower cost quite a bit of money i got it put in 4 years ago.

thanks

salamanders are prone to leaking if you do not have a perfect installation.

most important issue is to make sure that the supply temp is no more than 55-60 degrees this will make them leak, there are many other reasons that give them problems but if installed correctly you should get around 10 years out of them.

Dont go for a combi system unless you spend a lot on the boiler as they do not have a good flow of water compared with pumping a gravity system.

I buy my salamanders from tapstore.com at £259.00 for the 3.0 bar pump
see link below, but even better get one of there brass ended pump you will not have the same problems as the plastic pumps.
