Mountainwalker: If you buy from John Lewis you get a free 5yr guarantee on all sets. I do not work for John Lewis and am not associated with them in any way. 5-6 years is about the life of a LCD TV. Plasma can go before that and are more likely to have screen burn from static images. I have never managed to repair a Plasma TV for under £300.
